Drawbridge Dr. Deelenlaan, Tilburg

Hollandia Infra designed and supplied the new drawbridge for main contractor Heijmans Civiel Grote Projecten, who realised the entire project, replacement of the bridge, for Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management).
All stakeholders felt it was vital that the bridge was closed as briefly as possible during the replacement process, which meant the job had to be done within the space of two months.

Hollandia Infra has shown that it doesn’t rely on standard solutions, but that it raises the bar by looking at how functionality and aesthetics can be brought closer together during execution.

The old nostalgic drawbridge at Dr. Deelenlaan in Tilburg was no longer suitable for today’s traffic capacities. Also, the bridge was one of the engineering structures of the “Wilhelminakanaal widening” project that had to be modified for shipping purposes.
Under the Design & Construct contract, Hollandia Infra is responsible for the design, manufacture and assembly of the steel superstructure of the drawbridge and the hydraulic system for the driving gear.
The Tilburg local authorities and Rijkswaterstaat attached strict conditions to the spatial quality of the bridge. The execution of the architect's plans and as such compliance with the visual quality plan required close coordination between the architect and the design team.
Rijkswaterstaat and the architect have expressed their compliments about the final result.

“Hollandia Infra has shown that it doesn’t rely on standard solutions, but that it raises the bar by looking at how functionality and aesthetics can be brought closer together during execution.”
